Unit 5 lesson 3 Experiment in Folk----Kong goes for folk

课程目标:高中英语课程总目标是使学生在义务教育阶段英语学习的基础上,进一步明确英语学习的目的,发展自主学习的能力;形成有效的英语学习策略;培养学生的综合语言运用能力。根据高中学生认知能力发展的特点和学业发展的需求,高中英语课程应强调在进一步发展学生综合语言运用能力的基础上,着重提高学生用英语获取信息、处理信息、分析问题和解决问题的能力,特别注重提高学生用英语进行思维和表达的能力;进一步拓宽国际视野,增强爱国主义精神和民族使命感,形成健全的情感、态度、价值观,为未来发展和终身学习奠定良好的基础。因此,高中英语教学要鼓励学生通过积极尝试、自我探究、自我发现和主动实践等学习方式,形成具有高中生特点的英语学习的过程与方法。根据英语课程标准,我设计此课的教学计划如下:

Teaching objectives

(1 ) ability goals

To develop strategies for prediction .

To develop the ability to summarize the material the students have read .

To practise asking for and giving personal information.

(2 ) moral goals

To set a goal and study hard to achieve the goal .

To build up strong will and confidence gradually .

To express opinions in English boldly by learning from Kong Xiangdong 

Teaching key points

To collect specific information by themselves

To work out the meaning of the words from the context .

To exchange ideas and express opinions in English

Teaching difficult points

To get the students to use English to express their own opinions and give reasons .

To deal with possible problems in the students’ spoken language .

Step 1 lead in :

To list some styles of music

To listen to 4 extracts about music and tell what the style of the music is ? the name of the music or the singer / composer ?

Chinese folk music : 茉莉花

Classical music : the No.5 symphony by Beethoven

Rock -n-roll : Uninvited by Alanis

Pop music : 我们都是好孩子 by王筝

Step 2 Reading :

The students read the title and the subtitle to predict what is about the text .

Folk : folk music

Experiment :

Who will do / make an experiment in folk music ?

What experiment will he make ?    

Part 1 Some information about Kong Xiangdong :

-- A classical pianist .

Q 2 : What awards has he won?

-- In 1986 , the youngest prize winner in Moscow’s Tchaikovsky International Competition .

-- many more awards in competitions across the world .

Conclusion : He is a world – famous pianist .

Q 3 :  How can he make so great achievements ?

-- lived with music from birth .

-- would practise on the paper piano as early as 5 years old .

-- Though made to practise so much ……, he didn’t quit .

Conclusion : He had a difficult time but never gave up / quit . .
